The Ozarks Studies Institute seeks to preserve the heritage of the Ozarks, its culture, environment and history by fostering a comprehensive knowledge of Ozarks' peoples, places, characteristics and dynamics. The Institute promotes a sense of place for residents and visitors alike and serves as an educational resource by collecting existing and discovering new knowledge about the Ozarks and by providing access to that knowledge. Ozarks Writing Project
A satellite site of the greater Kansas City Writing Project and the National Writing Project. The OWP will introduce teachers to the National Writing Project model, which is focused on three related activities: (1) demonstrations by teachers of their most successful method for teaching writing; (2) study of current theory and research in the teaching of writing and thinking; and (3) practice in writing and responding to writing in small groups. The OWP's main premise is that the best teachers of teachers are other teachers. Teachers must apply and be accepted to the institute before enrolling. The OWP must be taken for graduate credit. A modest stipend will be awarded to each person selected for the institute. To learn more, visit www.missouristate.edu/english/owp.
