I apologize for not regularly updating my blog, I know my loyal fans have been extremely disappointed not to here more about my adventures in LA. I'm sorry to report that there really hasn't been any adventures or excitement on my end, and that's why I've been so bad about updating my blog.

One thing I did do recently is...drumroll please...get my haircut!! Exciting, right?  Actually, for me, it kind of is. I've had long hair for about a year now and I decided I was through with it, so I cut it off. All of it. Below is a picture I took today in the office with my webcam.

Me, at work

So, yeah. That's my haircut.

In other news, today was my last day at Pangea. I wasn't intending on this week to be my last, but my current financial situation as it is, I new I didn't have enough money to drive around and eat in LA for the next couple of weeks. I'm going to be coming home (to Arkansas) next week. I'll be stopping in Texas first. It's my sister's birthday next week, so I'll stop by and see her for a day or two, and then I'll be home. And then in two weeks, I graduate!! Yippee!

At first, I thought I would just stay in LA, even after my internship was over. But I think I want to come home for now. First, I need to save up some money. Secondly, getting my internship and coming to LA happened so fast, that I didn't really make any plans or have any idea what I was going to do after I got here. I think I need to take some time to gain some perspective, think about what I want to do and then go about getting it done. Thirdly, I'm still thinking about Grad school, so I may just work for a year, save money, and apply to more schools next year.

The good news is that everyone at Pangea was great today. Both of my bosses told me to keep in touch and that when I get back out here, to let them know and they'll try to get me a job or another internship. I actually think I probably may try to get another internship, because even entry-level jobs want at least one year of experience in the industry before they hire you. And that's where internships are helpful. The good thing is, is now that I've done it before, I'll know what I need to do next time (like going to an entertainment temp agency so I can work a few days a week and make money).

Overall, the whole experience has been a lot of fun and I can't wait to come back permanently. Everyone in my office is awesome and I can't wait to see their first film when it comes out (it goes into production this fall, I believe).

Well, it's been a while since my last blog post (again). Again, for the same reason, I haven't had a lot going on my end so there was really no reason to make a post. However, a couple of interesting things happened today.

First, I got to run an errand to Lionsgate. While this may not seem too exciting, it was kind of cool to get out of the office and see what another film company looks like. Obviously, it's bigger than where I work. However, it was a little different than what I was expecting. For some reason, I was thinking it was going to be some huge offices and cubicles, really widespread and all that (as it always appears in the movies, which, of course, is never a reflection of reality). But it wasn't. Now, I only saw like, 10 feet of it, but from my view it looked to just be a regular office floor.

Secondly, a crazy person called me up today at work (he wasn't calling for me, but I was the one that picked up). I can't go into the details, but he was calling for someone in the office, and when I told him he wasn't there, he completely FREAKED. He started cussing at me and yelling all sorts of things that I couldn't even make out. My boss and another guy at the office both had to talk with him and try to get him to calm down, which was very hard to do. It was definitely weird, as I've never had to deal with something like that before. But they assured me that's not typical behavior from people who work in the industry.

So, there was nothing groundbreaking about today (though, I did read a really good script, which was a nice change of pace from some of the bad stuff I've had to read). I'm hoping as things begin to pick up in the next few weeks, I'll be more exposed to other aspects of the industry and thus, will have more to write. As much as I enjoy working in the office, I would love to get on a set sometime and see how that's run.

Well, it's been a while since my last blog post, but since nothing of major consequence has happened, there really wasn't much to write about. Sigh.

Currently, I'm sitting in the hallway of the office building I work in. Locked out. For about an hour...and counting. The reason for this has to do with a couple of factors. First, I decided to leave for work early today because, A) I thought it would reflect good on me to arrive to the office early and start work, and (probably the most important) B) leaving early makes driving on the 405 a lot easier (indeed, I miss a heavy load of traffic and cut my driving time by half). I'm not expected in the office until 9:00, but the last couple of times I've gotten here early (around 8:30), there's always been someone here. Well, today, as a phone call from my boss just informed me, everyone that was suppose to be in the office was on a conference call to the east coast that they just happened to take at home. So, now it's about 9:30 and they're not likely to arrive for another 20 minutes. As Liz Lemon might say, Blurg! Ah well, at least it gives me time to write in my blog!! Though, this concrete floor is not too comfortable.

As for my internship, I've been reading a bunch of scripts, though Wednesday they handed me this 500+ page book to read and write coverage on. But I look at it as a good thing. First, it gives a reason to actually read a book, even if it's not my own personal choice; and it's a physical copy, meaning I can take it with me to the pool and read. All the scripts I've been reading have been electronic copies, meaning I've had to sit and read it off the computer screen for hours on end, which I can attest is not comforting to the eyes at all.

Oh, and gas is now up to $4.50 here. I'm going to fill up in Marina Del Rey where I work, as it's cheaper than other places, only a mere $4.35.

Well, hopefully something cool will happen soon that I can actually write about, because honest to blog, it's been relatively normal around here for me.

So today was Day 2!

Today was kind of a different today (not that I would know what a different day would be, considering it's only my second day). What I mean is that I was practically the only one in the office today. There were a couple of other guys there, but they all seemed to go in and out during different parts of the day. Also, the office assistant wasn't there today, so I was left in charge of phones (if you've read my previous post, you know what this means). But I have to say, it actually went well today. I think my main problem is that whenever I get into a new situation where I don't know anyone, I tend to be quiet and shy. It always takes me a couple of days to get comfortable in my surroundings, so hopefully by next week I'll be a bit more confident.

Also, I learned that I may be doing other things than just coverage (updating databases and contact information, YAY!).

Tomorrow my sister flies into LAX from Malaysia. She has a twelve hour holdover, so I may go and pick her up and show her around for a little bit. I think I may take her to see that new horror film, The Strangers, because that's what great brothers do right? Show them a home invasion flick right before they arrive home to their apartment at 2:00 am.

So today was my first day at my internship. According to Google Maps it's only about 16 miles from where I live to where I work. Although I wish I could be a little closer, this morning it wasn't that bad a drive; only about 30 minutes. The drive back, HOWEVER, was no fun at all. I came to a dead stop probably about six or seven times and the majority of my time on the 405 was spent going about 15 miles/hour. It took me about 50 minutes to an hour to get back. Ah well, that's the way it'll be I suppose.

Now, on to the internship. It's hard to say exactly what my feelings are, especially after just one day. The people that I met today were really nice and laid back, which was cool and made me feel a bit more relaxed. I'm working for a guy named Dave Weinstock and he basically told me that my main duties will be reading scripts for them to develop. I definitely did a lot of reading today, mainly just coverage previous interns (I assume) did to get a sense of what I needed to do and he also sent me a couple scripts that'll be in production soon (sorry, I can't talk about them...very hush hush). The good thing about this is that I won't be doing a lot of "intern" type work (i.e. copying, filing, etc.). I did have an awkward phone call from the CEO of Pangea (I didn't know who he was at the time) that led to some awkward silence...yeah. I've come to realize that I'm not good at talking on phones, which is something I need to get better at, especially in this business.

Added bonus: My internship is in Marina Del Rey, which is a really nice and pretty place (at least, from what I've seen so far). And the gas prices are lower there than other places I've seen - only 4.03 there compared to about 4.23 in Sherman Oaks. That's all I really have to say for now, which I know isn't a whole lot.

Well, I leave for LA tomorrow and I haven't even finished packing yet! But I'm getting there. I'm excited, but I don't think the full impact of where I'm going and what I'll be doing will hit me until I drive into LA and the glorious traffic they have out there. I'll actually be heading to Amarillo first and will stay for a couple of days at my sister's apartment. These past couple of weeks have been busy and I know I'll be working non-stop once I start my internship, so I figure I'll just chill for a couple of days at my sister's which will constitute as my "vacation" and catch up on some reading and tv watching. That's all I have to say for right now. I'm sure I'll write more once things get started.
