So today was my first day at my internship. According to Google Maps it's only about 16 miles from where I live to where I work. Although I wish I could be a little closer, this morning it wasn't that bad a drive; only about 30 minutes. The drive back, HOWEVER, was no fun at all. I came to a dead stop probably about six or seven times and the majority of my time on the 405 was spent going about 15 miles/hour. It took me about 50 minutes to an hour to get back. Ah well, that's the way it'll be I suppose.
Now, on to the internship. It's hard to say exactly what my feelings are, especially after just one day. The people that I met today were really nice and laid back, which was cool and made me feel a bit more relaxed.
I'm working for a guy named Dave Weinstock and he basically told me that my main duties will be reading scripts for them to develop. I definitely did a lot of reading today, mainly just coverage previous interns (I assume) did to get a sense of what I needed to do and he also sent me a couple scripts that'll be in production soon (sorry, I can't talk about them...very hush hush). The good thing about this is that I won't be doing a lot of "intern" type work (i.e. copying, filing, etc.). I did have an awkward phone call from the CEO of Pangea (I didn't know who he was at the time) that led to some awkward silence...yeah. I've come to realize that I'm not good at talking on phones, which is something I need to get better at, especially in this business.
Added bonus: My internship is in Marina Del Rey, which is a really nice and pretty place (at least, from what I've seen so far). And the gas prices are lower there than other places I've seen - only 4.03 there compared to about 4.23 in Sherman Oaks.
That's all I really have to say for now, which I know isn't a whole lot.
