Another Awesome, Super Great, Totally Rad, Really Terrific, Best of the Best, You Know You're The Bomb Week! : )
18 July 08 10:42 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Alright, so you can tell by the title that's it's been a good week. On Wednesday, Matt and I went swimming! I love swimming! Then we went to visit an old friend, Brian Rock, in Redondo Beach. It was half way between where he was, Irvine, and us. It was about 30 minutes south. We looked up restaurant options and decided on Seaside Pizza, because we thought it'd be by the sea. We were wrong. It was a very small New York style pizza place/hooka bar. Great food, though! After that we went to the Pier and looked around. It was really fun! Here're the pictures:

EVIL CLOWNS!

The saddest pony express ever:

Then I got to get up early to go Thunder Road for my internship! I read a really weird, dark, twisted retelling of The Wizard of Oz. It was... different, but I liked it and I think it has potential. Then I wrote coverage for it and got really nervous because I think that a lot of people are going to end up reading it. I hope I did a good job. I really tried to work on being specific with my log line, since my boss and I had a long discussion about them on my last coverage. I also think that I saw Carson Kressley, but I could have been way off. But the guy I saw totally looked like him.

What else happened yesterday? After lunch I finished reading two of the projects that Thunder Road is developing. A vampire one and a crime/drama thing. Both very good. I don't think I really did much else at work yesterday, but I feel like there was something else I wanted to write about! I took some pictures, though.

Ellen!

Me on the Lot... not a great pic, but I was trying to look non-chalant.

Water Tower:

Then today... oh today was so much fun! I read another project, a remake of Clash of the Titans. VERY GOOD. Then I made some copies and went on a Starbucks run. At lunch the real fun began. my friend, Sara, and I walked around the lot. I really want to explore the Gilmore set some more, but they're always filming there! Today it was GHOST WHISPERER. We walked by and saw this strange thing hanging from a crane. (Pictured below). It looked like diffusion, but it had vines around it. As we stared a Electrical Guy from NBC/Universal came over. We asked him what it was and he explained that it was diffusion to make the sunlight more gentle, and that the vines gave a more natural shadow that would look more like a tree opposed to a giant floating square. So, that was awesome! Then, we walked over to the Friends Stage and I got my picture taken. I also got to see the Pushing Daisies trailers! I was really hoping to see Olive, but no dice. Maybe next week... my final week. I'm really hoping for a great celebrity encounter next week. :)

Oh! Before lunch, my boss had really been craving Fish and Chips, so I looked up the nearest place (without being asked), found directions, called to make sure they had what was advertised, checked reviews, and gave it all to him. He went there and said it was good. So, I think that was pretty cool. And it looked like it was going to rain this morning, but it didn't. It was just very overcast:

But it got sunnier:

After lunch, I really didn't do anything. I tried to read a script, but it didn't hold my attention. I read two magazines and just kind of hung out. I did have to say goodbye to the other assistant, Erica, who'll be gone in NYC my last two days (next Thursday and Friday). She was really fun and I'm glad I met her. We're now Facebook friends and she told me to keep and touch and call if I decided to move out here. I also told Viruna, one of the producers, about my last days. She immidiately put me on her schedule to have lunch next Thursday. So, that's exciting! She's going to talk to me about my goals, tell me what I should have learned, all that stuff. So, I feel like I made some good connections through this and they seem to be pretty sad that I'm leaving. I think. :) ----

Oh, also on our lunch walk we came across this stage that had a city backdrop in it.

Zoom in and see:

After I left work (and freaked out because it took me an hour plus to get home and halfway through I realized I left my lunchbox in the fridge!) I decided to do a survey on xanga. Well, it took me to a site that showed me a trailer for Appaloosa, a script that I read at the beginning of the summer and did coverage on. It stars Viggo Mortesen, Ed Harris, and Renee Zellweger. It looks really good and I'm very excited about it! It's amazing to see scripts actually coming to life. I would like to see some of these things being filmed. Maybe I like production more than I thought?

Anyway, I think that's the majority of my news. I'm sad that this trip is winding down, but it's been a really good trip. I can't complain (outside of living in a hotel room with 3 other people and having ZERO privacy or alone time for 56 straight days). But everything's been worth it. I totally appreciate that this opportunity only happens for a few and I was one of the lucky ones. I wish everyone could spend a summer doing something they've always dreamed about. In fact, I encourage you to step out of your comfort and choose one thing you've always wanted to do and do it. It doesn't matter how small it is, just check it off your list before the summer ends! You've got time! : )

It's nice to have internet
15 July 08 11:47 AM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Wow. It has been an eternity since I was able to write. I started a blog, but I wasn’t able to finish it because the internet went down. It’s been very picky lately and went down altogether for 5 days straight.  Needless to say it’s been effecting my school work, since I haven’t been able to post my script on time or critique my partner’s work. Hopefully it’ll work again for good here shortly.

So, where did I leave off? I have no idea. I guess I’ll start backwards instead. Yesterday I worked at Old Navy. It’s my second to last week, and I’m starting to get pretty sad about leaving this store. Everyone who’s every worked at an Old Navy can tell you the people are great, so it’s inevitable that you make friends at whatever store you work at. So, it’ll be hard to say goodbye next week, but I know I have my wonderful Springfield store waiting for me when I get home. I miss those guys A BUNCH!

This weekend was phenomenal! Friday night, Luke, Matt, and I went to the famous Hot Dog Place, PINK’S, in Hollywood. All there walls are filled with signed celebrity photos and it’s not unusual to see celebs hanging out at this little restaurant. Of course, we didn’t see any, but we did wait in line for an hour just to order! It was worth it! I had the Mulholland Drive Dog: 10” hot dog, nacho cheese, onions, mushrooms, and bacon. Matt had the Millennium Dog:  hot dog, chili, guacamole, onions, lettuce, tomato, and other stuff. I can’t remember! Luke had the Lord of the Rings Dog: BBQ sauce and Onion Rings.  It was DELICIOUS!

We drove around after Pinks and saw some fun stuff:

Then on Saturday we drove to San Clemente, Ca! It’s South of LA about 1.5 hours. My Grandma Kathy, Grandpa Buddy, and cousins Emerald and Hallie were there to visit, so we joined them. We had a great time! We went to the beach and saw Life Guards rescue people. The Tide was very strong and kept dragging people to the Pier! Then we drove around and looked at the marina and some really awesome boats! After that we had a fabulous dinner of lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. YUMMY! That night Grandma and I stayed up late watching TV. I’m hooked on Big Brother again!

On Sunday we got up and went to breakfast by the OCEAN! It was a very nice restaurant with delicious food and we got to sit outside! Then we visited some more and hit the road.

Matt and I decided to take the Pacific Coast Highway back. It was fun at first, going through Laguna, Huntington, Etc., but we never really saw the water. It was built up so much on both sides that we were pretty much driving through towns the whole way. And it was taking a lot longer, so we eventually got back on the 405.  Plus, that part of the PCH was cluttered with oil rigs and industrial stuff.

Okay, so moving backward. On Thursday and Friday at the Internship not a lot happened. I spent most of my time (11 hours) updating my boss’s boss’s contacts. It wasn’t as grueling as it sounds. J I also read some fun scripts that are going to be in production sometime in the near future. That was fun. I made some phone calls, and did some errands. I also found out (and got to see the artwork for) a movie that is considering Kate Winslet and Angelina Jolie. Of course, it’s more like throwing names out there than actual negotiations, but it was still really cool to see! Friday afternoon was very nice. There wasn’t a lot to do, so we spent a lot of time just chatting. I got to know my boss better, which was a lot of fun. We talked about girly drinks and what ones were acceptable for men to drink. J

Last Tuesday and Wednesday I worked at Old Navy. Last weekend… oooooooooooooh right. Last weekend was the 4th of July! So, I worked at Old Navy the Tuesday and Wednesday before. I went in to my Internship on Thursday ready to work all day. Well, the office closed at 1! So, I got to leave early. Which was cool, but sad at the same time. I spent the morning reading a script and writing coverage, and that was it! Then I came home and went swimming! That was the majority of what I did all weekend. Friday we didn’t want to fight the 4th of July crowds so we, WENT SWIMMING! We also went to a nice Mexican Restaurant, El Torito in the Galleria Mall. After that we went to the Archlight Theatres and looked at their gift shop. It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen! It had these really cool mugs that celebrities designed. I want one! J We also worked on our scripts because everyone but Matt had to turn one in on Sunday!

On Sunday and Monday I was so tired  I didn’t get out of bed. I started reading the Twilight Series. (Thank you, Lindsey for letting me borrow them). Now, if you haven’t read these books they’re really good… if you like young adult fiction and vampires. However, they’re turning the first one into a movie and I am less than thrilled. I think the casting is all wrong, and the trailer makes it look hokey. I guess I’ll have to see it before I can really have an opinion, but I might wait for it to go to the $1 theatre!

So, I think that catches us up! Horray! Now as soon as the internet comes back on I’ll post this. I’m sorry it’s so long!

Sorry it's been so long!
08 July 08 10:34 AM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Okay, so I have been meaning to update a lot sooner, but NOTHING has been going on! So, I didn't really know what to write about. Basically last week I went to work at Old Navy both Tuesday and Wednesday night. I think I swam during the day, which wore me out for my shifts, but I slept really well! :) On Thursday I went in to my internship at Warner Brothers (I still love saying that!) expecting to work for a full day. Well, the office was closing at 1 instead of 6, so I couldn't stay any longer than that. It was kind of nice to have the afternoon off, but I didn't have to come in on the 4th (the next day/Friday) either. So, I've been off since basically Thursday at 1 and the time is starting to wear me down!

Thursday afternoon I went swimming. We also got pizza from Ameci, which is delicious!

Friday we went swimming and worked on homework. Then we went to dinner at El Torito to celebrate America's birthday. It's a really nice Mexican Restaurant. :) Then we went to Archlight Theatre to check out the gift shop. It's one of the best I've seen, actually. I really want one of the coffee mugs that the celebrities designed!

Saturday was the best day! My brother, Cory, and Sister (in-law), Jenny, were in town waiting for their plane to go to Austrailia. We went to Roscoe's for some chicken and waffles. Now, that sounds terrible, but it was DELICIOUS! The chicken was the best I'd ever had... and so was the waffle!!!! Like I said, DELICIOUS!

I found out later, that we went to one that isn't in the best area. We should have gone to the one in Hollywood, apparently. Oh well! I had a great time!

After Roscoe's we went to City Walk at Universal Studios. We walked around and went in some great stores. We found a really cool candy store that had a giant Marilyn Monroe made out of jelly beans!

After a wonderful dinner at Bucco De Bepos... wow... I need to check that spelling: http://www.bucadibeppo.com/ Buca Di Beppo. :) After that we dropped Cory and Jenny off at the airport so they could fly to Austrailia!

Weekends in Los Angeles
30 June 08 06:35 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Hello all! I have had a wonderful weekend! On Friday, work was pretty slow. There were 4 interns, so we didn't have a lot to do. I read scripts and helped Viruna enter some data. I really like doing that for some reason. She mentioned needing an assistant and I jumped at the opportunity to put my name in. Cool Unfortunately, there's no budget for her to have one, but she's going to keep my resume around incase something comes up. That's pretty great! I was glad that I said something.

Saturday was another great day! We slept in. I was so tired! And then we went to Venice Beach. All four of us roommates went. It's one of the first times we've all hung out together. Plus they were doing some kind of Eco-Festival, so there were a bunch of booths and stuff to look at. It was a lot of fun!

Is it high GAS PRICES that are keeping these cops out of cars?

ATTACK of the Birds!

Saturday night we went to Trader Joes which is the best store ever. I bought a reusable bag and was entered in a drawing to win $10! Yay being earth friendly! After that Lindsey, Luke, and I worked on our scripts for our rewrite class.

Sunday was probably the coolest day of my whole life. Lindsey volunteered us to help with a fundraiser for Jeanne Shaheen hosted by the The League of Hollywood Women Writers. It was held at Marti Noxon's house. This is a link to her on IMDB, but she's a writer/producer for shows like Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When we were driving up I'm pretty sure we saw Rebecca Romijn driving her car.

Basically what we did was check people in as they came to the event. We met a lot of writers and a very cool actress, Justine Bateman:

We also got to eat some delicious food. It was all finger sandwiches and little cookies, but it was AMAZING. There were salmon things and curry things.... just very good things in general. We got to mingle a little, but not a lot. The coolest part, however, was when Lindsey's boss Thania St. John let us listen in on the ending meeting with the executive board. Everyone had great things to say and really smart ideas. I was glad that I didn't have to come up with anything intelligent to say. Geeked At the very end of the meeting, Thania introduced Lindsey and I to the group. They all applauded us in thanks for helping them. Seriously, we should have been applauding them. They were so nice and considerate. I'd love to be a part of their group someday!

Here are some pictures from the area we were in:

Captial Records:

The Academy:

The Hollywood Sign:

Saturday night we went to see Wall-E. It's WONDERFUL! Go see it as soon as you can. It was by far the best movie I've seen in the last 6 months. Very happy and wonderful! Then it was back to sleep. I was exhausted again!

Today I've spent my time getting caught up on e-mails and swimming. Matt and I swam laps for about an hour and a half. It's really nice weather and the pool makes it better!

I hope that's all that I wanted to report. There's a lot going on!

A double celeb sighting!
26 June 08 07:35 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

So, today at my Internship I pretty much did nothing at all. I read 3 scripts that are already being developed, took a giant box of prints across the lot, and went to Starbucks 3 times from 9am-9:30am. That was interesting. The lady now knows me as the Intern who drinks too much coffee. She was fun! I did a few other random things throughout the day, but they were very small tasks like "make a copy."

While most of these tasks were not all that exciting, lunch had almost more excitement than I could handle. Some of you have probably seen or heard of the show Pushing Daisies: http://abc.go.com/primetime/pushingdaisies/index?pn=index. If you haven't you should go out and watch it immidiately! It's a very colorful, very fun show that leaves you with a smile on your face after every episode. Anyway, when we were going into the cafeteria I noticed that Ellen Greene looked familiar... and when I saw Swoosie Kurtz next to her I figured out who I was staring at. It was awesome! They looked just like their characters would in our world, if that makes sense. It was really awesome. Here's a picture of them from the show:

Also at lunch, when I was standing and waiting for my Poquito Mas (sp?) chicken tacos, a very nice man started a conversation with me. We laughed and talked about the food and the various places we could eat on the lot. It was nice to have someone that I didn't know start talking to me out of the blue. It was kind of like being at home. :)

I also realized that I really like TV. A bunch of Pilot scripts are coming through our office now and I really want to read them. I told one of my bosses that if they ever need help with that to let me know and I'll do whatever she needs. So, hopefully I'll get to read some of those soon. I just love having more time with the characters than you get in a movie.

Well, that's it. I'm very tired and can't wait to get some sleep. Old Navy is kind of wearing me out, but it's worth the extra money.

Sorry there aren't a lot of pictures!

Traffic and Gilmore Girls
23 June 08 09:08 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Hello! Friday was a truly wonderful day. I left the hotel around 8:15am like normal, but the traffic was really good and I got to the lot 36 minutes early! So, I got some Starbucks from Central Perk and headed over to the Gilmore Girls set. I still couldn't get THAT close because they're filming things like every day, but I did get some fun pictures of random sets:

I like this is Lorelai and Rory's house (the blue one):

Here's the Gazebo/Center of Star's Hollow and a Star Trailer:

Here's Luke's... it's undergone some changes:

And another shot of Miss Patty's-- I think it's a storage space now:

Even with all of the walking around, I was still the first intern in the office and 5 minutes early. It was fun! That kind of meant that I got to do stuff during our very slow day and the other intern just read scripts already in production. Which, that's fun too, of course, but it's nice to feel needed around the office. I pretty much made copies, ran errands, did coverage, and other things like that. It was a very good day, even though it was pretty slow. The day ended with me and the other intern carrying a huge box into the executive offices. Another cool trip. Plus, I got to leave an hour early! Here's what I learned: Traffic is cake at 5, and super busy at 6pm. I got home in about 20 minutes instead of an hour. I took a few more pictures on the way out... OH! And ELLEN is moving onto the WB lot. Her new building is RIGHT ACROSS from Thunder Road!

Here's the big portrait. This was taken right outside my office:

And here's George Clooney's old parking space. He has a new one now and this one is actually used to house a dumpster:

Here's the path I walk through every Thursday and Friday:

When I got home, I packed up my stuff, grabbed Matt, and got in the car to head to Vegas for my Sister's baby shower. We saw some fun sites as we were driving (and stuck in traffic... lol). First off we saw a Mannequin seatbelted into the seat of some ladie's car. I didn't get a picture of it, but it was really funny. We also saw one of the reason's gas prices are so high:

My First Celebrity on the Lot... that I recognize.
19 June 08 07:15 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Okay, first of all... it's ridiculously hot in this hotel room. This tiny, tiny hotel room that feels like 95 degrees at least.

Second, I've been working at Old Navy to gain some extra money... not much, but every bit helps. I worked Tuesday from 4-930... except the kept me 3 hours later than I was scheduled and I was there until 12:30am. I didn't get home until 1 in the morning. Plus side: There was no traffic on the highway. I worked Wednesday for inventory from 5-11pm. That was a tough schedule with me getting up at 7 this morning. Anyway, it's really different here in LA than it is at home. They're more relaxed about things... sometimes REALLY relaxed and I end up doing too much work. Also, everyone in the store can speak Spanish. I knew when I was in school that I should learn a different language. I wanted to learn French because I always thought I'd go to France. I'm still working on that. But, now I'm the jerk who can't speak Spanish and communicate with customers.

So... here's my advice about comng out here (before I get to the exciting celebrity news):

A) Bring lots of cool clothing/a fan.
B) Find a job that pays at least minimum wage in California.
C) LEARN SPANISH.

Okay, now you have the tools you need to survive here in LA and not feel like a jerk when you can't communicate with people. Because I really feel like a big jerk.

OH! And I got another call about an internship. They're filming a Comedic Documentary and need someone to do research. I could do that. I'm hoping that they'll pay me. If they will I'll definitely do it. If they won't... I might see if I can just work Tuesdays and Wednesdays and then quit Old Navy. I'm not sure. We'll see.

ALRIGHT! Enough about that. On to the good stuff. Today was the beginning of my 3rd week at my internship. I got to the office about 8:45, grabbed some coffee and waited until almost 9:30 for the bosses to show up. Then I got to work. I read a script, FINALLY A ROMANTIC COMEDY, and did Coverage for it. My comments section was about 3/4 a page. I'm getting better at having an opinion. :) Then I helped with the REVIEW Packet. Basically it's a compilation of all the magazine/news reviews of movies and music that pertain to our office. That's pretty much all I did before lunch... PB&J sandwich, Pirate's Booty rice/corn puffs, granola bar, and $1.62 soda.

After lunch, I got to take the keys to the Big Boss' BMW and get his ID out of it. It was such a nice car, I could hardly breathe. And I couldn't figure out how to lock it... I ended up popping the trunk! Woops! I got to take his ID to the EXECUTIVES Building. That was beautiful and really cool. When I got done with that I was enlisted to help carry heavy presentation items across the lot and into the Glass Building... the Executive Offices in the Marketing Building. On my way, CLINT EASTWOOD rounded the corner as a passenger in a car. The driver backed up when he almost hit us. The boys I was with didn't pay attention, but I saw him. I saw the Clint Eastwood. If you don't know who that is see the picture below from MILLION DOLLAR BABY and crawl out from under the rock you're under:

After that the day slowed down again. I went to run an errand for my boss... I drove to the nearest Barnes and Nobel. That was fun, but I kind of got lost.

So, that was my day! Here's a hotel picture to add some more flavor to this e-mail. You really only need to see one. It's pretty much the whole room. We do have a small fridge behind where I took the picture. It's a very small fridge.

Did I mention I saw Clint Eastwood?

Jimmy Kimmel and Days 3 and 4 at Thunder Road... plus a trip to Vegas.
13 June 08 07:36 AM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Sorry it's been a long time since I posted. I've been SUPER BUSY.

On Wednesday, we got to go and see Jimmy Kimmel Live! It was awesome! We were at the El Capitan Theatre, right across from the Kodak Theatre and Graumann's. We had adavanced tickets, so we were 99% guaranteed we'd get in, and thankfully we did! Matt, Lindsey, Ann, and I were all able to sit together too. That was very cool. We were in the middle of the audience right behind a camera. At first I didn't want to sit behind a camera, but it ended up being pretty cool because we could watch from the viewfinder and see how they got their shot ready. I remembered a lot of things from Dr. Larson's production class. It was really cool.

After we'd been sitting for awhile, a really spunky guy tried to rial up the audience. He was funny and had really god energy. I liked him a lot. Then Jimmy came out and talked to us. He was really funny, obviously.

We were really lucky because Mike Myers did a pre-tapping before our actual taping began, so it was like we got to see two shows! Which was awesome. Mr. Myers is very funny and seemed really humble. I liked him a lot. For our actual show, the guests were Kathy Giffin (who is a doll, I adore her), Josh Peck (I think that's his last name... from Drake and Josh), and then Esparanza something (the musical guests). It was super fun!

Then yesterday I went back to my Internship. That was another intern who knows a whole lot more than the rest of us. He was really nice, though, and finally showed me around. I'd had all these questions and no one had really given me a tour.

Basically all I did yesterday was read scripts. I read one and did coverage (it was based on a true story, which was cool) and then I read another one that was about spirits and ghosts that was pretty freaky. It was cool. I also went to Starbucks twice and GOT MY OWN ACCESS PASS! Other than that I did the random stuff they told me to.

BUT I TOOK PICTURES: The first is the walkway I go to get to Starbucks. Central Perk is where I get it. The fountain is across the way. Then the last two pictures are my actual building... 81.

On Friday, I pretty much did the same thing. I read scripts and did coverage. The difference that day was that one of my scripts was REALLY good. I LOVED it. It was like CRASH only a totally different story line. It was awesome. I hope it goes somewhere. The other cool thing that happened was... there was this wicked awesome Superman statue in the main boss's office that I thought was the coolest thing ever. He redecorated and decided to trash it... so I was able to take it home!!!!! It's the best! I'll post pictures later. But it's awesome. It was really hard to sit through the rest of the day. I just wanted to call everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

After work on Friday I went home (it took 45 minutes), packed, grabbed Matt and hit the road for Vegas. We left about 7:30 and got there around midnight 30. My brother and law waited up for us and we went to sleep about an hour later. I got up at 9:30 and worked on homework... it's hard living in another state and taking an online class. Then I went over to my brother's house for his birthday party! We were going to leave Sunday morning, but I found out the rest of my Vegas family were having a graduation party for my cousin... so we stayed and went to that. So... we're going back Monday morning instead. And then NEXT weekend we're coming back for my sister's baby shower. I love my family so much and it's nice to be able to spend so much time with them since I was in Missouri all but one week a year for the past 13 years. I was really lucky to be able to come that much too. I mean, what kid gets to go to Vegas every year???

Anyway, there's my tale. I know it was a long one... forgive me.

A weekend update!
09 June 08 06:13 PM | urhairispretty | with no comments

Alright, so this weekend was wonderful! We had several great experiences. The first thing we did was go to the Galleria Mall on Friday night. It's basically just a mall, but it's where they filmed a lot of movies such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Or at least that's what my beautiful roommate tells me. :)

Then on Saturday morning we got up, went to the grocery store. It was packed... it's always packed. And then met my friend, Zack, for a trip to the beach. Once we got to his house he drove us to El Matador. It's supposed to be a really quiet, "unknown" beach. Once we got there we realized that the secret must be out because we couldn't even find a parking spot. But it was worth it. Totally. Browse the pictures and you'll see why. :) The only down side was the sharp rocks. Lindsey slipped and cut her leg. It was pretty bad, but she's a trooper and wouldn't let us go home. So, we stayed all afternoon and saw really awesome stuff... like DOLPHINS. We saw LOTS of dolphins. They made me really happy. We always saw pelicans diving in the water, and some seagulls tried to take our chips, but I showed them who was boss.

After a long day at the beach we were all starving and tired. We didn't want to make another PB&J so we ventured across the street to The Golden Chopstick. IT WAS DELICIOUS! (and relatively inexpensive.) It's kind of my new favorite place to eat. The portions are so big that you can get two meals out of one! It's wonderful!

On Sunday we got up early again and ventured back out to the beach. This time we went to Will Rogers State Beach. It was not nearly as pretty as El Matador and we had to pay $10 to park. But it was a fun experience anyway. My favorite part was the Life Guard Stations. They are right out of a movie... and reminded me of Veronica Mars, which made me super happy.

We also ventured out to Old Navy to pick up my schedule. I met a co-worker who does post-production for Dealiest Catch. I thought that was pretty awesome. It's like everywhere you turn there is someone from "the business." You always have to be on your game.

After that we went to Trader Joes. It's the best store in the whole world. They have really great deals on all kinds of food, from fresh baked to organic. It's awesome! While we were there, Ann called. She wanted to hang out, so we invited her to come to the hotel and swim with us. We swam for awhile and then went to have dinner at THE GOLDEN CHOPSTICK. I'm telling you, it's that good. :)

Today I have pretty much done nothing. I watched a movie, played video games, browsed facebook, and repeatedly checked blackboard to see if my critique partner for Rewrite class has posted her scripts. She hasn't. I hope she does soon because I'm working tomorrow at Old Navy and our critique is due Wednesday. I guess college never really ends... even after you graduate. :)

I hope you enjoyed the update! Here's a random picture:

Another Day

So, today was day 2 of my internship. It was wonderful! I left later and got there just in time today, instead of 45 minutes late! I met a new intern, Sara, who is really nice. It's cool to be meeting people from California.

Here's basically my day in a nut shell:

1. Logged e-mails about scripts that were submitted.
2. Called airlines to find out how many miles my boss's, boss's, boss had on his frequent flyer accounts.
3. Starbucks run.
4. Finished a script I started yesterday. LOVED it. I'm glad it's going into production.
5. Helped move everything out of my boss's, boss's, boss's office, so they can paint.
6. Found out that a REALLY BIG NAME is going to be the lead in a script I read yesterday and LOVED.
7. Began reading another script that is currently in production. It's a really good script. I had goosebumps at the end and just wanted to sit and stare for awhile because it was so mesmerizing.
8. Listened to another intern's "really important task"-- get the correct lunch order for the boss's boss. It's true what you see on TV... everything has to be perfect or people get really upset. But don't worry, it's nothing like The Devil Wears Prada. Everyone's been super nice here. I have to say my favorite people, so far, are the security guards. They're so wonderful and friendly!
9. Went to lunch-- paid $10 for a sandwich, but had a really fun encounter with the lunch guys and made a friend in line. My talent for talking to random people is coming in handy.
10. I'll get to this one at the end.
11. Made copies and had to have them done "IMMEDIATELY." That was stressful. But the script is super cool, again, and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. It's going to be awesome.

FYI: I would say more, but I was told today to keep things on the DL and not talk about the productions.

12. Learned to "SPINE" a script-- I wrote the title on the edge in a red marker.
13. READ READ READ... finished that last script I was reading. I've never read so much in my life. I love it!

Okay, so here's number 10... the big finish... I GOT TO GO TO THE GILMORE GIRLS SET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were shooting Cold Case on part of it, but I could see Miss Patty's and the square and Lukes and all that. Here are some pictures... there will be more next week!

 That's Miss Patty's.

And that's down the street. Recognize that stoplight!?!?!?!?!

And lastly, here's my drive home:

Everything from Opera to The Beastie Boys

So, today was my first day at Warner Brothers. Can you hear the Halleluhia Chorus as you stare at this picture:

I know I can. I left the house at 8am this morning. I got to the studio in 18 minutes. That meant 45 minutes of driving around/stalling before I decided to go in. I took some scenic routes... no, I was not lost! Okay, so I got lost trying to avoid the gate. When I finally did go in, I was still early. I was the first person there. When everyone else got there, I was introduced to all the people in the office, including the other intern for the day. He helped me a lot today and I had a lot of fun getting to know someone new. However, he reminded me exactly of my critique partner in Teleplay, Thomas. That was weird, and nice, because it was like I already had a friend. :)

Here is what I did today:
1. Arrived/Met People- 9 to 9:05am.
2. Ran to Starbucks to get a tall drip and a muffin- 9:05-9:20am.
3. Read a script 9:20 to 11:30am.
4. Wrote Coverage for the script 11:30-12:30am.
5. Was given Script #2 to read for fun. 12:30am-1ish.
6. Walked alllllllllllllll the way across the lot and delivered a FedEx package. I've never seen so many doors to one room before in my life. It was a maze of cooridors and doors.
7. Ate lunch at the Grill: Turkey Burger, Fries, and a Coke ($9)- 1ish to 1:45
8. Finished reading Script #2, walked to the Executive Building, Learned to Scan and Log things- 1:45 to 5pm
9. Was given Script #3 to read for fun, met the author of Script #1, made calls to airlines, copied an article- 5pm to 6:15ish.

That was my day! Then I got in my car to come home... my ramp onto the freeway was blocked by construction so I drove around for awhile until I found another on-ramp. When I got on the freeway it was pretty stop and go. This is when I listened to any music I could find on the radio... from opera to beastie boys. It took me an hour to get home. :)

I'm very tired, but very excited to go back in the morning! Another 9am-6pm day!

Here's my schedule for the next week:
Saturday- El Matador with my friend Zack
Sunday- Something fun TBD
Monday- Celebrate my 2 year anneversary with Matt
Tuesday- First day at Old Navy
Wednesday- Jimmy Kimmel show-- guest Kathy Griffin
Thursday and Friday- Thunder Road Pictures!

It's going to be a good week.

I Got It!

Horray! I have an Internship! Basically, I'm back to where I was last week when I thought I was going to work at Thunder Road Pictures two days a week. I'll be there Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 6pm. Steven, my boss, liked the coverage and said I did a good job. So, thank you, Diana Botsford, for teaching me everything I know about writing coverage! I wouldn't be here without you!

Today we're just being lazy. Lindsey didn't have to go to work because Universal had that fire. She'll go in on Wednesday, though. So, we're going to go see a taping of the Late Late Show. WOO HOO!

Sometimes it's good to be a tourist... take two?

So, I spent a lot of the weekend applying for new internships. I've got a lot more to apply for, though. I have some high hopes for some of them, though! And, of course, I am still working on my coverage. There is hope that the WB one will work out... even if it's just one day a week.

When I wasn't busy looking for work I spent my time as a tourist. Saturday Matt, Lindsey and I went to Santa Monica to hang out at the Pier:

Then we went to the Third Street Promonade:

That last picture is for Chelsea. HI CHELSEA.

Then today (Sunday) we got up really early... around 7:45am to go to the Kung Fu Panda Premiere! As we were getting ready to leave Luke read that the Universal Studios back lot was on fire. Lindsey's internship is right there, so we were extra concerned. The fire itself was enough to make us upset, though. Apparently there is a ton of damage to some really historic things. We could see the smoke rising from the 101:

When we got to the Premiere we were all kind of tired, but excited at the same time. Of course, we had to park in the middle of nowhere and walk a few miles, but that's nothing out of the ordinary! We found a great spot on the fence, right next to the Press. Since it was our first Premiere we weren't sure where the celebs would come from or we could have gotten closer. We were about 30 minutes earlier than the first arrivals, so we had good pickens. :) We saw a ton of celebrities and had a blast!

Kung Fu Panda                                                       Ace of Cakes!!!!                                         Randall Duk Kim

Jack Black                                                                Jack Black Kung Fu-ing                             Wayne Brady

Maria Bello                                                     Lucy Liu in the best dress ever!                              DUSTIN HOFFMAN!

And Michael Clark Duncan aka The Coolest Guy Ever:

So, there is the tale of the weekend. Next weekend we're also going to do some fun things! My friend who lives out here gave us the heads up on some great places. You will have stories! And more updates about the internship search! I'm off to work on coverage and enjoy the California SUN!

The Wrong Couch

Today was... interesting. I woke up at 7am and got ready. The internet was down for the hour and a half before I needed to leave. This should have been my first sign that it was going to be a difficult day.

I made it to the Warner Brothers Lot without any problems. I'm a much better six lane driver than I anticipated. It was really cool having to stop at the gate and show my idea so they could get a visitor pass made for me! After a few minutes they let me in and showed me where to go. I parked my car and walked by a bunch of StarWagons. Something was going on because there were a lot of people in hospital gowns. It was fun to see!

Once I made it to the office I went straight in. I found Steven and he told me to go wait on the couch. So, I sat down on this really nice white couch in the Thunder Road Office. A few minutes later he came in and said "Um... could you go wait on the couch?" I guess he meant the one in the LOBBY out of the glass doors. The one I was on was his boss's couch. It was a funny way to start the whole process.

So, I went and sat on the right couch and discovered another intern was waiting out there. By now I was right on time, but as with all meetings this one got started a little late. I sat in the lobby for quite awhile, but I definitely didn't mind. Everyone was smiling at me and saying hi. I wonder if every one is so nice because they never know who might be sitting in the Lobby? It was fun. I know my breathe caught every time someone opened a door!

Anyway, the point of the story is that this business changes in the blink of an eye. Once I got into the office and had my first meeting it turns out I don't actually have an official internship and this was actually more of an interview. I guess there are a lot of interns this year (with way more connections than I have) and a limited number of spaces. So, I was given a script to read and asked to get coverage written and sent to him as soon as possible so that he can figure out what to do. He did tell me to look at other options, so if you know of anyone who needs a good intern....

Don't worry, though. I applied for other things like crazy today and I will do my best to write the most amazing coverage anyone has ever read! Missouri will not be thwarted! : )

Nothing Yet

Hello! I just arrived in California last evening. Matt, my financial backing/driver and I took a longer way than my roommates Luke and Lindsey because we stopped to see family. We went the north way from Kansas City, MO through Colorado and to Las Vegas where we stayed with my sister and helped her with baby stuff. (She's due in August). Then, we left Vegas for California. The drive should have taken about 4.5 hours, but ended up taking almost 6! There was a really bad accident right after the Nevada/California state line. A semi-truck apparently exploded because when we passed it there was almost nothing left. I really hope no one was hurt and that everyone was able to get away from the truck before it got too bad.

Anyway, after we got through there the drive was pretty good and we made it to the hotel safely. It is pretty strange to say I'm living in a hotel... with three other people. It's not a lot of space per person, but it's not terrible either. It's just a little older than I'm used to, so things like DVD players and an X-Box won't hook up to the TV. LOL. And the wall unit for our AC is pretty shady too. But the community is nice and there are lots (like 5) of sushi restaurants within walking distance! I love the sushi!

So, I ventured out a little today to find where I need to go for my first meeting tomorrow morning. It was very intense driving on a freeway with six lanes in one direction, but I guess I'll get used to it! In reality it's not really that much worse than driving in Springfield, MO. I think the drivers are equally as crazy, but there are more here which ups the stakes, I guess. I'm sure after a few mornings of driving the 101 and switching freeways I'll be much more comfortable! I know today I was pretty stressed just from driving around!

I will be meeting with Steven, the man in charge of my internship, tomorrow morning at 9:30am. As he puts it "we're just going to talk." Really we'll be figuring out what days I'm going to work and exactly what I'll be doing. As of right now I anticipate 2 days of interning with a 2 week trial period to see if I'll work out for the summer or not. I anticipate I'll be a good fit for their team. After tomorrow I'll have some more updates for you.

While I go watch some episodes of Veronica Mars, here are some pictures from my trip across the western United States to tide you over until tomorrow's updates!

Kansas The Kansas Energy Windmills

ColoradoColorado Mountains

Utah Utah... the state that never ends... other than Kansas.

Arizona Arizona... looks about the exact same as Utah!

Nevada Nevada. Land of the Big Horn Sheep... that go to the park.

California And finally, California. This was BEAUTIFUL. It's not LA, but it's close and it was getting dark.

See ya!
