What's going on in the Department of Communication

Seeking your input for COM week T-shirt

Okay everyone, here's an opportunity for you to participate in some of the planning for COM week.  Every year we have t-shirts made to publicize the events and as a memento to keep. This year we're doing a "TOP TEN" list on the back of the shirt.  Here's what we have so far:

You know you are a Communication Major when:

       1.     APA format has become a way of life.

2.     You reside in Craig Hall.

3.     When you heard that public speaking was a common fear, you laughed.

4.     You know the purpose of a focus group.

5.     People ask you, “So what are you going to do with that…(meaning your major)”.

6.    Your hair has ever been stuck to a burlap wall during class.

7.  You've chatted w/ Sam Dyer on the elevator at least 10 times.

8.

9.

10.

We need your ideas SOON, so email me directly or post your comments to the blog directly.  We'll use your ideas (within reason of course) on the back of the t-shirt. You will be immortalized, sort of.

Remember, you have to register with the COAL community in order to post.  Send me your ideas!

Here are a few that just came in:

-When essay exams are the norm

-When Power point is used more by students than professors

-Although you have papers to write, you have to go outside Craig to find an open computer lab

-When you apply theory every time you interact with someone.

-When you cannot escape theory and research

-You know Dialectics Theory can be applied to any situation...literally...EVERYTHING

You've started several conversations/arguments by saying "I could tell by your non-verbs that..."

I like the one that says, "When essay exams are the norm."

It was suggested to me that Communication majors try to define rhetoric to none com majors.
